An evening walk Part 1 (of 5)

Where do I go to start a photowalk, or just feel good about everything? Alice Keck Park, Park! I live two blocks from here, and I love it. This park is beautiful and always contains loads of subject matter. First some flowers! I love flowers, and I had never seen these little blooms before. Daisy's with a purple yellow color gradation?! Beautiful! Around the corner, a very dramatic spider web, captured with a lot of shadow and the most minimal amount of highlight. Across the path from the web were beautiful pink blooms in the sky! Protected by a tree who through evolution, has found a way to prevent kids from climbing along its branches. At the south west corner of the park was a beautiful scene of shape and motion, the natural plant peach fuzz heightened the backlight glow, and provided my personal favorite image of the walk.

An evening walk Part 2 (tag: david voorhees, photography, walk, santa barbara, vagrant,

After leaving Alice Keck Park Park, I was walking along the north west side of Alameda Park. The Vagrant's Cart, always contains great subject matter, I was drawn to the soft teddy bear, with the schizophrenic hand writing behind it. If you're going to be homeless, might as well reside in Santa Barbara. After a couple quick snaps of the cart, and a block later, LAVENDER! Generally, lavender is associated with softness and relaxation, but back-lit (yup, love it) and it appears much more aggressive and tense.

An evening walk Part 3

Who knew there was a Don Quixote (DQ) statue in SB?! Maybe I noticed it stumbling home one night, but I couldn't recall clearly that I had previous knowledge of DQ in SB. It's in the parking lot of Sotheby's Reality. I love the story of DQ, and I love statues. I spent a few minutes photographing the chap, he stayed nice and still for me.

An evening walk Part 4

What was this beauty before my eyes?! Had some cave dwellers descended from the La Cumbre Mountains to scribble on these white walls? A new street artist arrived in Santa Barbara with future-primitive style?! Alas, this beauty was created by mother nature herself. Former tracks, left by vines that had climbed the side of the building. The shadow of the palm added an additional graphic element. Sometimes you have to say: "fuck the shape, this photograph is all about line and form!"

An evening walk Part 5.

Yes, more texture! I was capturing this rain spout, when Eli recrossed my path .I had met Eli one block up, about 15 minutes before. We had chatted briefly then, but when we reconnected, we got into a much deeper conversation. The coyote pelt, pants, and belt he is wearing, were made by his own hands. He too is a photographer, hopefully we can work together before I leave SB! He was a great person to befriend, talk to you soon Eli.

The last shot was the capacity of my CF; I was nearing my destination anyways, so no tears.

<3,
D

Not bound by bits

Major photoshoot last weekend for a fashion & beauty editorial I'm building.
The first image was a camera error. Something went wrong, not exactly sure what, but clearly it's not normal.
Not that that is a bad thing.
The second image was the result of a test run for post production ideas.
20 mins in CS5 (yep, I'm wild) and I have created something stimulating. I was inspired by the original capture... it was if the camera communicated with my subconscious....

In case you're wondering, the concept behind the editorial is how we are spending a greater amount of time communicating in a digital binary manner, rather than human and personal.

Soon to come...

Continued:
New fine art photography portfolio.
Display Intent: 20"x30" Prints, over matted and framed.
or
Printed onto translucent acrylic 20"x30" slabs, and back-lit: to replicate the lighting method used in capture, and to present a graphic visual display with the saturated colors fully present.
All microscopic subject matter, the irony is: you don't have to see it, to feel it.

These 5 are the Horiz', or the Evens.
Enjoy.
